Brussels sent letters to the six countries ahead of last week's meeting, telling them to give good reasons for closing the border

Brussels and the EU Commission said Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Hungary, Finland and Sweden have imposed rules on their borders that are too restrictive


They fear that closing the borders would harm trade and undermine the EU's fundamental principle - freedom of movement

The Commission has warned that countries have until next week to provide a "good reason" for the coronavirus measures or they will have to suspend them.


EU spokesman Christian Wigand warned that countries acting in their own interests put the unity of the bloc at risk.
