Nicola Sturgeon shuts thousands of pubs and restaurants
Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed that the virus appears to be spreading faster in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK and that the country will be moving towards peak and low levels of infection by the end of the month.
Sturgeon announced a 16-day ban on pubs and restaurants selling alcohol indoors, as she tries to prevent the coronavirus from spreading north of the border. The Prime Minister insisted that the new measures were not a blockade, although all licensed facilities in five areas of the health council - which include the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh - will be closed, except for take-away.
Nicola Sturgeon warned that Scotland was weeks away from a catastrophic rise in fatalities as she faced allegations that her new rules had given pubs and restaurants a 'death sentence'.
