Prime Minister Boris Johnson has released a video in support of Parliament 50:50 and to encourage women to run for elected office
This launches #AskHerToStand Day on November 21, celebrating the Women's Qualification Act, which allowed women to run for Parliament for the first time. It was passed 102 years ago.
Since then, more than 5,000 MPs have been elected - but only 552 of them are women. In the corridors of power, men still outnumber women 2: 1.
50:50 Parliament, the campaign for women to have equal seats and an equal voice in parliament, found evidence that, unlike men, women need to be questioned three times before considering candidacy.
