Customers have been instructed to pay unexpected customs charges, administrative fees and VAT bills if they wish to deliver. Although in most cases the demands are considered genuine extra costs as a result of Brexit, some customers were unsure whether the demands were a fraud. Internet and mobile phone companies were put on alert and alerted customers to criminals taking advantage of the confusion, after some were bombarded with text messages and emails about customs clearance costs.
