Delivery drivers are demanding large sums of money at the door before delivering packages containing online orders sent from the EU.

Consumer experts have also accused delivery companies of profiting from the uncertainty about the new rules since the UK left the EU



Customers have been instructed to pay unexpected customs charges, administrative fees and VAT bills if they wish to deliver. Although in most cases the demands are considered genuine extra costs as a result of Brexit, some customers were unsure whether the demands were a fraud. Internet and mobile phone companies were put on alert and alerted customers to criminals taking advantage of the confusion, after some were bombarded with text messages and emails about customs clearance costs.
