Boris ruled by his bride: a plan to appoint Lee Cain as head of Boris Johnson's cabinet was challenged by Carrie Symonds, the Prime Minister's fiancée 

Boris Johnson's communications director announced his resignation last night after the prime minister's fiancée and advisers number 10 opposed plans to appoint him chief of staff.

Lee Cain will be replaced as communications director by James Slack.

His departure will increase speculation that Dominic Cummings , the prime minister's oldest advisor, could also leave. He said he was "very unhappy" about Mr. Cain's departure.
