Heathrow CEO warns of 'abyss' jobs

Heathrow's CEO warned that thousands of jobs could be lost when the government's leave scheme ends next month. John Holland-Kaye said that up to a third of Heathrow's 75,000 jobs could be "at risk if we do not see the aviation industry recover. The warning came when Heathrow announced that the number of passengers in August was 81.4% lower than in the same month of 2019. Only 1.4 million people passed through the airport last month. "Britain's economic recovery is lagging behind," he said in a statement . "The government has announced that it is studying options to reduce the quarantine for passengers with a negative test for Covid-19 - but ministers urgently need to turn words into action. Each day of government delay costs British jobs and livelihoods. "
