What took you so long, Dear Boris?

He's gone and we'll be better off without corruption

Johnson said on Thursday as he tendered his resignation that he was "immensely proud" of his government's achievements, including Brexit, the pandemic crisis, and dealing with Russian aggression in Ukraine.

The prime minister, who had won the 2019 general election with a majority, agreed to resign after more than 50 members of his executive resigned in protest at his administration and the scandals that have engulfed him in recent months.

The BBC revealed that Johnson spoke hours before the official announcement with Graham Brady, chairman of the so-called 1922 Committee, to tell him that he agreed to resign, and remain at the head of an interim executive until the Conservatives elect their new leader.

The appointment of his successor as leader of the Tory Party, and therefore of the British Executive, should be known before the Conservatives hold their annual congress, scheduled for October, said a Downing Street source, until which time Johnson would remain in office.
