MOVIE´S REVIEW

Don't even try to understand

¨I´m Thinking Of Ending Things¨

Dir: Charlie Kaufman / 2020

( Score: 0 )

The girl who goes on a road trip with her boyfriend to meet his parents in a remote city begins to wonder about the end of the dating relationship. It could be quite a hook to end up in a typical horror movie, but it doesn't happen here.

Where everything could start with a succession of events worthy of a nightmare, the viewer is presented to a psychological plot, and could stay in it. But one plot begins to enter the other and neither as a semiotic challenge does the film become comprehensible nor much less explainable.

Neither in terror, nor in suspense nor in semiotics

It is two hours or more in which we try to embark on the wave of horror and we are faced with existentialism being more than questioned. I had to read interviews with director Charlie Kaufman to try to elucidate what he meant by this film and I am sorry to see the failure. The work itself should be enough, any attempt to explain (as the director did) shows his failures in making it. His most tangible work to the average film audience is still Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (2004).
