Why is there no Brexit agreement yet?

Here are three key points that still need to be resolved, despite weeks of negotiation. These are fishing rights, the so-called level playing field provisions and how any trade agreement will be implemented. The second and third of these are the focus of tonight's dinner and are seen as the biggest barrier to an agreement.






What is the level playing field?


Basically, it is the question of how to ensure that British and European companies can compete fairly with each other after Brexit. At present, all companies in the EU operate under the same environmental, social and state aid legislation which can impose costs or benefits on companies. At the end of the transition period, this will not be maintained.
