Storm Alex first hit the Brittany region in north-west France
Italy has already registered at least five deaths after the passage of storm Alex this weekend. The bodies are suspected to have been missing in France since last Saturday - the country borders Liguria and Piedmont and has also suffered from the storms. According to researchers, strong winds may have carried the bodies from the French coast to the Ligurian coast. The violent storm began on Saturday (3), hitting the Piedmont region. This Sunday (4) was Liguria's turn. Due to the storm in which at least 11 people disappeared in France and more than 60,000 houses could not be supplied with electricity.
The authorities fear that the balance of victims will increase in the coming hours. Rescuers have not yet been able to reach several inaccessible and isolated municipalities. On Saturday, rescue teams were able to save 140 people by helicopter. Storm Alex first hit the Brittany region in north-west France on Thursday (1st). Soon after, the phenomenon headed for the southeast of France, where the winds and the rains intensified. According to Météo France, the country's main weather forecast service, some regions recorded the equivalent of three months of rain in just 10 hours.
