Anti-food waste plan

The UK has signed up to a global sustainable target of halving food waste by 2030. Consumers are being asked to search their cans to weigh and record their daily food waste in an ambitious test to reduce the mountain of 6.6 million tonnes of food thrown away by UK households each year.
The UK's largest supermarket, Tesco , has teamed up with environmental charity Hubbub to conduct the six-week experiment in which families will receive advice on meal planning and food storage, along with recipe tips for using leftovers.
Supermarkets have been criticized for wasting food on their supply chains that could be diverted to food banks. Food waste rose by 30%, reversing the progress made at the beginning of the pandemic, as consumers threw away less food while confined to their homes.
