Guaraná: the flavoured soft Brazilian drink
Guaraná is a typical fruit from the Amazon and therefore the taste of it is the face of Brazil. Today it is consumed in the form of a soft drink. Historically there are reports that when the indigenous people drank it, they were not hungry for a whole day of hunting. The fruit was also used to cure fevers, cramps and headaches.
The Amazonian fruit can also be eaten in powder form, such as syrup, sticks and extracts. It is also present in energizers, ice creams, cosmetics, among others.
Guaraná has good development in hot and humid climate. The fruit is red, yellowish or orange in colour. The harvest is done when the fruit is already ripe.
In guaraná is found the guaraína, a stimulant substance, that decreases the fatigue and increases the mental resistance. When harvested, it is put into bags and after three days fermentation begins. It is at this time that the peel is removed for pulping and separation of the seeds.
When they reach the "snap point", they are suitable for use in the manufacture of soft drinks.
The most popular among Brazilians is guaraná Antartica.
