The Summer School & Festival runs from 24 July - 21 August 2021, programmed by Artistic Director Sara Mohr-Pietsch in Dartington, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 6EL .
The
summer days are set to breathe life into artistic dreams. The Dartington
Trust will be hosting courses for all ages and abilities, in a setting
surrounded by music festivals, concerts and events, with South Devon as
backdrop. It
is exciting enough to be able to do this in ‘normal’ times, but it is even more
so when we can bring together a community of musicians and avid music lovers in
this post-covid era and during ‘vaccination times’. After the traumatic year we
have been through, we are ready for our Summer Music School and Festival.
“FESTIVALS
PROMOTE DIVERSITY, THEY BRING NEIGHBOURS INTO DIALOGUE, THEY INCREASE
CREATIVITY, THEY OFFER OPPORTUNITIES FOR CIVIC PRIDE, THEY IMPROVE OUR GENERAL
PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING. IN SHORT, THEY MAKE CITIES BETTER PLACES TO LIVE.”
Commented DAVID BINDER
Our
executive team is made up of CEO Alan Boldon, who took on the role in
2021, Emily Hoare, Creative Director, who has previously worked in
France and Pavel Cenkl, Director of Learning. Enjoy
of the beautiful surroundings of Darting Hall, where you will find interactive
projects in the gardens, gatherings around the trees and brass band concerts
taking place under the marquees. You can choose whether to book a pass for
courses and concerts with the option of adding accommodation to your package.
These will be running from Saturday to Saturday.
Originally
established at the suggestion of William Glock in 1948, Dartington quickly took
on remarkable proportions and entered a
new
musical and country landscape, remaining permanently in Devon since 1953. Not
least because in 1925, Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst bought the
neglected 14th century Dartington estate, inspiring a myriad of avant-garde
thinkers and artists. Decide
what your starting point is (open/ intermediate/ advanced intermediate)
considering your current musical skills. The
itineraries can be tailored to your individual interests and mood and will
feature around two or three concerts and events on most evenings each week.
Everyone is welcome to join, including families and children. According
to the covid rules a cellist must bring his or her own musical instrument, just
as a pianist will find his or her instrument available there. Schumacher
College,
Dartington Arts School Researchin Practiceand Dartington
School for Social Entrepreneurs represent who the institution is and its
solid foundation. They attract inspiring artists such as Benard Leach,
as well the Composer Igor Stravinsky, the cellist Jacqueline du Pre,
the playwright Bernard Shaw, and environmental activist Vandana Sliva
. As
we can see, it is a place and an event where audiences from all over the world
encourage social change, learning, and experimentation, covered by the
eco-system that sustains it. The social values are: social justice, art,
apprenticeshipand ecology. The

is the perfect season to enjoy the outdoors. Even better accompanied with
sunny, warm days, full of music and courses, where artistic individuality is
welcomed, respected and enhanced. More info on the pilot programme can
