Health secretary Matt Hancock told Sky News that there is evidence that the number of variant cases is falling
Matt Hancock said there is evidence that improved contact tracing and tighter border measures are helping to control the number of people infected by these newly discovered variants abroad.
"If one of these new variants doesn't respond to the vaccine as well as the others - as well as the standard variant in the UK, which is the Kent variant - then if that's the case, then it's obviously a very serious risk to the vaccination programme," he said.
