According to the World Health Organization, cases fell by 11 percent this week and deaths by 20 percent. It is the first time since the pandemic began more than a year ago that such a steady drop has occurred

For six consecutive weeks, the number of new Covid-19 cases worldwide has fallen

From increased social distancing to blockades, the initial impact of vaccinations or the emergence of collective immunity, there is no single reason for the drop in numbers.

The WHO added that the countries with the most substantial decline had spikes over Christmas and responded with increased public health and social measures.
