With a threatening US appeal against the decision, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to pick up the phone and call US President Donald Trump and US President-elect Joe Biden to ask them to drop the extradition offer

George Christensen of the ruling National Liberal Party said Trump should forgive Assange for "ensuring that the Deep State and a potential Biden Administration cannot proceed with the actions against him

He added: "The UK government should release Julian Assange immediately and return him to Australia. He is being held without charge, so there is no justification for him to remain in Belmarsh prison for another moment.

"Furthermore, the Australian government must ensure that when he is returned to Australia, there is no means of extradition from his country to the United States".
