Rishi Sunak has put his weight behind plans to force everyone entering Britain into quarantine at a hotel to prevent new strains of coronavirus from damaging the mass vaccination programme

Amid growing support for the proposal among cabinet members, the chancellor concluded that the economic cost of the move is outweighed by the risks of current travel restrictions.


The decision on tightening border rules is due to be taken by Boris Johnson tomorrow at a meeting of the government's Covid operations committee.
