All food and beverage exporters are struggling with unforeseen taxes caused by the Brexit effect, in the hope that the government would have reached a more comprehensive agreement

Retailers with shops on the continent are among those most affected, particularly the many who have shops in Ireland, which are often seen largely as an extension of their operations in the UK.

The problem is huge and is not just about food. Materials, textiles, advanced manufacturing, chemicals, cars and electronics are hit.

The British Retail Consortium says that at least 50 UK retail chains are struggling with the problem.
