Christmas plans for millions of families were a mess last night after more severe restrictions on the coronavirus were introduced to contain a more infectious strain of the virus. Boris Johnson unveiled level 4 restrictions for London, south-east and parts of eastern England that will prevent 16.4 million people from mixing indoors during the festive period.
