Supermarkets claiming government discount return more than 1Bi to their shareholders
Supermarkets are under increasing pressure to return almost £1.9 billion after generating outrage by rewarding shareholders with hundreds of millions of pounds in payments while claiming a huge government discount.
The big four - Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons - and the discount companies Aldi and Lidl will collectively save the huge sum due to the 12-month Treasury holiday on business rates, according to the consultancy Altus.
