One of the country's most acclaimed singers said she struggles to pay her rent while attacking the "dark powers" of the music streaming business

Listening for Spotify is great. But for artists the digital platform does not pay

Nadine Shah told parliamentarians she was a successful musician but was not being fairly paid for her work






Nadine Shah , a Mercury Prize nominee whose new album was acclaimed yesterday as one of the best of the year, told parliamentarians she did not make enough money with streaming platforms to "keep the wolf away.






The artist was accompanied by Guy Garvey, the singer of the Elbow band, and Ed O'Brien, who plays guitar at Radiohead, to ask for a review of how musicians are paid by streaming platforms like Spotify .

The musicians gave testimony to the culture selection committee, which launched an investigation into the economic impact of music.
