As soon as the big press certified Biden's victory, around 11:30 a.m. (Washington time), the streets of the big cities exploded with joy and the centre of the capital, a ragingly democratic city, became a sea of car horns, screaming endlessly. The fury of progressive cities, African-Americans and women flooded the polls and then brought euphoria to the streets. Kamala Harris, daughter of a Jamaican father and Indian mother, will be the first female vice-president in US history. A barrier has just been broken.
