New film with Meryl Streep may brighten up Christmas a bit
Netflix released the first images of Ryan Murphy's forthcoming film The Prom , starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Andrew Rannells
Based on a musical that debuted on Broadway in 2018, The Prom tells the story of Emma, a teenager from Indiana whose prom was cancelled when she asked to bring her girlfriend along. She is played by newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman, who won the role after - drumming - a national survey.
Meanwhile, a group of exhausted musical theatre stars, fresh from the critical attack of their latest Broadway venture, are searching for a worthy cause to help redeem themselves in the eyes of the public: Emma's situation seems to be the right way forward.
Meryl Streep leads a cast of stars that includes Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells, Keegan-Michael Key, Kerry Washington, Ariana DeBose and Jo Ellen Pellman.
New film footage reveals Streep in full glamour mode, as well as Kidman in his role as a Broadway chorus girl.
The Prom is available for broadcast on Netflix beginning December 11.
