Protests in France : "No to political Islam. Killer totalitarianism"

Demonstrations in France in honour of teacher beheaded by an extremist

Thousands of people gathered in the centre of Toulouse this Sunday to protest against the Islamic attack that killed Professor Samuel Paty on Friday.

In the square of the Republic of Paris, thousands of people gathered, as well as in other cities of France, in memory of Samuel Paty, professor of History and Geography decapitated Friday by an Islamic terrorist in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 50 km from Paris.
The atmosphere was solemn in the square of the Republic. All wearing masks. Sporadic applause. Many teachers, but also politicians, activists and, above all, ordinary citizens. A minute's silence and then the Marseillaise sang a cappella. The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has called a national tribute ceremony.

Journalists from "Charlie Hebdo", whose editorial staff was attacked in 2015 during the attacks in Paris, are among the organisers of this Saturday's tribute. Several political leaders confirmed their presence at the march, including members of President Emmanuel Macron's party.
