Rebecca: the plot of Daphne du Maurier's new film adaptation for Netflix
The film arrives at the Netflix streaming service on Wednesday 21 October 2020, after being shown in selected cinemas
The central character, a young woman played rather lightly by Lily James, meets the daring Max de Winter (Armie Hammer) in Monte Carlo and is so moved that in a few days she married him and went to his estate in England called Manderley.
There she meets the imposing housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (brilliantly played by Kristin Scott Thomas), a great team, a gray-haired man crouching in a house by a cliff (enigmatically saying: "I won't tell") and a cold, continuous memory of Rebecca , the first Mrs. de Winter. She died, but no one will say how. "She's still here," says Danvers, and then says this: "You'll never replace her. You're worthless. "James' character has a lot to learn about her new life, her husband, her story and the taciturn atmosphere in her home. The film gives us this at a fast pace and in the classic British style set in the 1930s.
