HSBC customers are charged on current account

HSBC signalled that it could charge for some current accounts, as the banking sector faces the prospect of negative interest rates.

The lender said yesterday that he was examining the possibility of charging for basic banking services in some countries.

While he insisted that basic bank accounts in Britain would remain free of charges, other accounts could face changes.
