Jointly agreed restrictions will only apply as long as absolutely necessary

South Yorkshire will move from high Covid local alert level to very high 00.01 on Saturday 24 October

The new restrictions will affect people living in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

The deal with the government is worth £41 million, including £30 million to support business in the region, and £11 million for advice to support measures such as testing and screening.
The Mayor of Sheffield City, Dan Jarvis, has confirmed that from Saturday, bars and restaurants will be closed as well as leisure areas, casinos and gaming centres. Wedding receptions are also prohibited.

However, gyms and leisure centres must remain open.

Ros Jones, the mayor of Doncaster, said she understood the concerns of residents and businesses, but warned: "There is an undeniable truth in the fact that our infection rates are growing in an upward spiral.
