Man shoots himself and kills a policeman
The episode took place in Croydon
A Metropolitan Police officer was shot and killed on duty. The Metropolitan Police said that a 23-year-old man was arrested on the spot in Croydon's custody centre and taken to hospital with a gunshot wound.
The policeman was shot at 2.15 this Friday by a man who had already been arrested. In a note, the Met said that the policeman was treated on the spot and then taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, but died later. No police firearms were unloaded, according to the police.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson issued a statement saying: "My deepest condolences go to the family, friends and colleagues of the policeman who was killed in Croydon last night.¨
