Israel now has a rate of 23,000 infected people per million population
Israel has been in lockdown since the last 18th. Initially, the government ordered the closure of schools, shopping malls, hotels and restaurants. This was the second time the country adopted the national lockdown. All companies except those considered essential, such as pharmacies and grocery stores, are expected to close. Outdoor markets will also be unable to function. Prayers and protests will only be allowed in an open environment, with a limit of 20 people and within a 1km radius of participants' homes, to reduce displacement. In recent days, Israel has recorded almost 7,000 new cases per day. This is a very high number for a country of just over 9 million people.
Some critics say that the restrictions on conurbations will also serve to hamper protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is being tried by a Jerusalem court for corruption.
