The Prime Minister explained how the new restrictions will work

UK: New tier system comes into force on Wednesday

The Prime Minister explained how the new restrictions would work while he addressed parliamentarians in the House of Commons before a televised press conference.

He told the House of Commons that the regulations for the new three-tier system would be made today, before they were debated in Parliament tomorrow and came into force on Wednesday.

Understand how it will work

Tier 1: areas under level one will be able to keep the hospitality business open - with the curfew at 10pm.

Tier 2: the measures introduced for areas on high alert aim to reduce home-to-home transmission, Mr Johnson said, "avoiding any mixing between families or sustaining bubbles within the home".

Tier 3: A number of companies will also be forced to close under the new restrictions.  In addition to pubs and bars, gyms, leisure centres, bookmakers, adult gaming centres and casinos in the area will also be informed of the closure.

Areas under level two will not be able to mix with other families in any indoor environment.
