Shortly after, Alex Cruz, the now former president and CEO of British Airways gave a direct message to UK parliamentarians in his last public appearance as CEO of British Airways: Coronavirus has permanently marked the industry and its airline needed to change to survive. Cruz was removed in a decisive reshuffle by Luis Gallego, a Spanish colleague and new CEO of IAG, BA's parent company.
Gallego turned to the head of Aer Lingus, Sean Doyle, to lead BA into the next phase of the crisis.

"We are navigating the worst crisis facing our sector," Gallego said as he announced the changes.
Airlines are not expected to recover until at least 2024, and the IAG reported a loss in the three months to the end of June of more than ?2 billion after the collapse of its passenger business.
