HOTSPOT: AMAZONICO

Brazilian flair to Mayfair

By Gabriel Colombo

After establishing itself as one of Madrid's top dining destinations over the past decade, Amazon has opened its second outpost in London's famous Berkeley Square in late 2019, followed a few weeks later by a third location in Dubai.  The 180-seat restaurant is located in Mayfair, the starting point for luxury dining experiences in the city.

Housed in a former bank in Berkeley Square, the South American-themed restaurant over-supplies at every turn, but still manages to keep its focus on the food.A place to gather friends and eat family, good beer options that are always chilled, various drinks and picanha, as the name suggests Amazónico offers dishes inspired by the South and Latin American region, not just the Amazon itself. Looking at the menu, you are able to find dishes inspired by a variety of countries, from Venezuela to Patagonia in the north of the continent in the south. With the huge popularity of Peruvian/Japanese fusion cuisine, Amazon also has its own dedicated sushi bar. they don't let glass empty. Generous, well-priced food, covered in Mayfair sophistication. Time for another cocktail? Then go for the leche de panthera, a blend of Belvedere Vodka, rum, turmeric, coconut and pineapple, it's even presented in an ornate pineapple-shaped glass. Sweet but not sickly, a well-balanced and delicious option for vodka lovers.

Speaking of pineapple, for dessert, the pina rostizada is a highlight. The roasted pineapple with caramel glaze, which can be seen in the open plan kitchen, is sliced and presented on a bed of corn cake and topped with a few scoops of coconut ice cream, a truly tropical experience that will be great.
