¨O inter-territorial council of government and regions cannot impose anything, says Isabel Díaz Ayuso |
Madrid started the 2nd lockdown on Friday night (2.oct.2020). It is the 1st European capital to re-establish strict lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic. The new lockdown should last at least 14 days, and can be extended if necessary. The region is Europe's worst focus of infection. But the inter-territorial council of the government and the regions "cannot impose anything and even less in this way. We are studying with the lawyer (...) and seeing how we can do things properly," said Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the Madrid regional president.
The Madrid regional executive, led by the right and maintaining a dispute with the national left-wing government, says the agreement "is not legally valid" because it was approved without unanimity and has announced that it is studying the legal options.
Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, said that "there are no criteria for making mobility restrictions," but said he was willing to continue dialogue with the government and study new restrictions in the region
