French fishermen will benefit more from no agreement than from "unacceptable" UK proposals

According to Minister Annick Girardin, the EU and the UK have failed to make any progress on the fisheries issue

So far, the United Kingdom has made unacceptable proposals. The fishermen would rather not make a deal than a bad deal, and they are right," said Annick Girardin, France's maritime minister.
Trade negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) have been at a standstill for months, and the issue of fisheries remains among the main points of conflict in the Brexit negotiations. Several EU countries want to maintain access to UK waters, but London wants to renegotiate fishing rights.

If no trade agreement is closed before the transitional period expires on 31 December, World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules for both parties will enter into force immediately. These rules include customs tariffs and full border control for UK goods entering the EU.
